Who we are looking for
We need people who can handle responsibility, and are willing to help people in times of need. People who can present themselves with a positive attitude and personality. All emergency situations present differently and sometimes strain our abilities and emotions, we must be able to act in a professional manner and show genuine concern for the well-being of our patients. We all work as a team to achieve positive results, we all rely on each other during calls to get the job done. You must have good common sense and the ability to learn on every call and expect positive reinforcement to increase your abilities and confidence on every ambulance call.

Requirements
You must be 18 years old. You must possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license and have a good driving record. We require a maximum ten minute response time from your residence to the EMS Building when scheduled on shift. You do not need to be an EMT to join. If are unsure it is sometimes best to join and see what the job entails and can always make a decision  from there.

Training
If not an EMT when you join, the Pipestone Ambulance Association will pay for the necessary education to obtain your EMT- Basic. This initial training consists of online and hands on learning varying in length depending on the course you take.
Once you obtain your EMT status, your license will need to be kept up every 2 years by doing continuing education courses. Training also includes monthly meetings and training, as well as annual skills that need to be required yearly.

What do you get back from joining the Association
All EMT basic and special training classes are fully paid for by the service, so there is no out of pocket expense for training other than your time. After completing one year as an EMT you will receive a reimbursement for your time in the EMT training class.
Jackets, pants, and shirts are issued to all members to wear on call for identification and protection. All members are issued a communications pager and portable radios for response and information purposes.

The membership of the association is a close organization that enjoys social events including a winter social banquet, summer barbeque, and special fun events throughout the year. We also have a chili feed fundraiser every February.

The personal satisfaction of helping in our community is one of the greatest paybacks that we have. You will earn the respect of the community and your peers. You will feel sadness when a patient dies and you will feel gratification when you are able to make a difference and save a life or prevent pain and suffering. You will make new friends within the organization and meet other EMT's through training meetings. You will expand your horizons by dealing with stressful situations and gain higher self-esteem in the one person who can make a difference - YOU!
